GVLL 2020 Restart

GVLL Families,

First and foremost, we hope this note finds all our of League families healthy and safe as we begin to resume a "new normal" post global pandemic life.

As Chester County has now reached the yellow phase and many are optimistic that the green phase is not far behind, we are pleased to report that all 12 Little Leagues in our District and over 72% of GVLL families have expressed a desire to play baseball and softball this year.

In response, the BOD is working to accommodate this desire. Of course, being able to play this year will require us all to adapt to many changes, including:

  • A shorter season
  • More intra league play
  • No snack bar
  • Lots of mitigations and accommodations including social distancing, liberal use of hand sanitizing, relocated umpires, etc

Please note that any resumption of play must be approved by Chester County. Our efforts will be in accordance with following Little League International Best Practice guidelines in conjunction with the recently published PA Governor's office sports guidance.

While it won't be easy, we plan to provide a fun, yet very different experience this season. For your planning purposes, our tentative plans are as follows.

Tentative Timeline:

  • Practices begin approximately June 22
  • Regular season games July 10th through September 10th.
  • Mid-September Post season playoffs that would be approximately 2-3 weeks.

This tentative timeline is effected by District wide discussions that are ongoing and subject to change.

Things to Note:

For our older players, we know this may overlap with Fall sports, so we want you to know we are going to take a flexible approach. If you are able to play through July and August, while perhaps miss games in September, that is fine. We plan to accommodate and borrow players from teams to ensure we can field a team for each game.

For our younger players (T-Ball and Rookie divisions) where it is harder to orchestrate social distancing mitigations and community support for playing was reduced (58% and 62% respectively) are still under review. If enough of you want to play, we will have these divisions.

There will be no Challenger Division this season.

As Little League is a not-for profit organization and registration fees cover many expenses, including equipment, uniforms, insurance, field preparation and maintenance - many of which were purchased based upon original projections and the costs are sunk, our financial options are limited. Given the unprecedented move by the Governor to shut down the entire state, we offer the following in the event you elect NOT to participate with the restart of the 2020 season:

  1. A full credit towards next season less the $3 Sports Connect service fee.
  2. Your fee becomes a tax deductible donation to GVLL.
  3. Refunds for cases of financial hardship.
